Surrounded by modern high-rises, this decrepit structure, with its brutalist architecture and peeling surfaces, is a relic from a dark period in history whose painful memories it has absorbed. In tracing Soriya’s ominous journey back to her roots, Tenement hints at a necessary reckoning with Cambodia’s political past without overplaying its historical dimension. It’s an impressive work from a woefully underrepresented national cinema.

 文祥（刘新 饰）奉父亲之命来到尼姑庵温课，在这里，他结识了名叫素碧（宋佳 饰）的小尼姑。两人的相识始于一场误会，之后，只要见到文祥，素碧必然会换上一副冰冷的面孔。某日，素碧不小心从梯子上摔了下来，文祥刚巧在下面接住了她，素碧的帽子掉了，一头秀发赫然展现。原来，素碧并不 是全然的尼姑，因为无法生育，她惨遭丈夫的抛弃，因为可怜她的处境，尼姑庵的法师允许她在这里带发修行。得知了素碧的身世，文祥顿生怜悯，惺惺相惜的两人消除了隔阂，走到了一起。在几番云雨之后，素碧怀孕了，她把这一切都告诉了前夫颜世雄。
